The UAE job seeker visa lets you come to the country and look for work in person, without a company or relative sponsoring your trip. Officially it is called the visit visa to explore job opportunities (ICP calls it the “Job Exploration Visa”). You can get it for 60, 90 or 120 days.
Last checked: October 2026, against UAE Government (u.ae), ICP and GDRFA Dubai service pages.
This guide covers who qualifies, what it costs, how to apply, what you cannot do on the visa, and how to plan your days so the trip turns into interviews.
What is the UAE job seeker visa?
The UAE Government portal describes it as a visit visa that lets foreigners search for a job “without requiring a host/sponsor in the country, for one trip”. In practice, that means:
- No host needed. You apply for yourself, so you do not need an employer, hotel or relative to sponsor you.
- Single entry. u.ae and ICP both list it as a single-entry visa for one trip.
- Three durations. You choose 60, 90 or 120 days when you apply.
- For job searching only. It lets you attend interviews, meet recruiters and network. It does not let you work.
Who is eligible for a job seeker visa in the UAE?
Not everyone qualifies. As of October 2026, u.ae lists three conditions. You must:
- Meet one of two profiles:
- be classified in the first, second or third skill level under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) professional levels, or
- have graduated in the last two years from one of the world’s top 500 universities, based on the Ministry of Education’s approved classification.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
- Pay the financial guarantee set for this visa (covered below).
MoHRE groups occupations into nine skill levels, and only the top three qualify for this route. If you do not have a degree, or your job sits at a lower skill level, this visa is not designed for you. Your realistic options are applying from home to employers who will sponsor a work visa, or using another visit visa for which you qualify. Our guide on how to find a job in UAE covers both approaches.
Documents you need
The official lists differ slightly between pages, so prepare the full set:
- Passport valid for at least six months
- A recent coloured personal photo
- Your bachelor’s degree certificate or equivalent (u.ae specifies it must be attested)
- For the skill-level route: a MoHRE certificate confirming you are skilled labour and showing your professional level (listed on ICP’s service page)
- For the graduate route: a Ministry of Education certificate showing your university is in the top 500 and the length of your study (listed on ICP’s service page)
- Health insurance valid in the UAE (an ICP condition)
- Nationals of Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq: a copy of the national identity card
Degree attestation usually takes the longest, so start it first.
UAE job seeker visa fees and financial guarantee
ICP and GDRFA Dubai publish fees in different formats, and the amounts are not identical. Here is what each official page showed in October 2026.
ICP (applications outside Dubai)
ICP’s 60-day Job Exploration Visa page lists an AED 100 application fee, AED 100 issuance fee and AED 100 smart services fee, plus a financial guarantee of AED 1,000. ICP’s 90- and 120-day pages list the same three AED 100 fees.
GDRFA Dubai
The GDRFA Dubai service page lists:
- Visa fee: AED 200 (60 days), AED 300 (90 days) or AED 400 (120 days), plus 5% VAT
- Financial guarantee: AED 1,000 security amount, plus an AED 20 guarantee service fee and an AED 40 collection and return fee
- Extra charges if you are already inside the UAE when the visa is issued: AED 10 Knowledge Dirham, AED 10 Innovation Dirham and an AED 500 inside-country fee
GDRFA notes that the total can vary with your circumstances. Always check the final amount on the payment screen before you pay, and keep the receipt.
Getting the guarantee back
According to ICP, you can request a refund of the financial guarantee after the visa is cancelled or after you leave the UAE. The visa must be cancelled after your departure, and you must not have committed any residency violations, such as overstaying.
How to apply for the UAE job seeker visa
You apply through official channels only. You do not need an agent.
Through ICP
- Open the ICP Smart Services website or the ICP smart app. ICP’s service page states that you log in with UAE Pass.
- Choose the Job Exploration Visa for 60, 90 or 120 days (single entry).
- Complete the form and upload your documents.
- Pay the fees and the guarantee.
- Receive the visa. ICP gives a service completion time of two days.
ICP also lists customer happiness centres and approved service centres inside the UAE. For help, call ICP on 600522222 (inside the UAE) or +971600522222 (from abroad).
Through GDRFA Dubai
GDRFA Dubai accepts applications through its website and smart app (logging in with UAE Pass or a username), at its customer happiness centres and at Amer service centres. Its stated completion time is 48 hours, and it publishes a list of authorised service centres on the service page.
Once the visa is issued, ICP says you must enter the UAE within 60 days of the issue date. If you do not, the visa can be cancelled or will need extending.
What you can and cannot do on a job seeker visa
You can: attend interviews and walk-ins, meet recruiters, network at events and visit employers.
You cannot: start working, including “trial days”, paid freelance tasks or unpaid work “until the visa comes”. Article 6 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 says no one may work in the UAE, and no employer may employ a worker, without a MoHRE work permit. If an employer asks you to start before your permit is issued, treat that as a warning sign.
Job seeker visa vs tourist visa vs employment visa
| Job seeker visa | Tourist visit visa | Employment (work) visa | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Exploring job opportunities | Tourism | Living and working for a UAE employer |
| Sponsor or host | Not required | Issued through a licensed tourism establishment | Your employer |
| Eligibility | MoHRE skill levels 1–3, or recent top-500 graduate; bachelor’s degree | Depends on nationality and visa type | A job offer and a MoHRE work permit |
| Can you work? | No | No | Yes, for the employer named on your permit |
| Who pays? | You | You or your host | The employer (Labour Law, Article 6) |
| Extensions | Up to 180 days in total (ICP) | Up to 120 days in total (ICP) | Handled by your employer |
How is it different from the Green visa?
The Green visa is a five-year residence permit, not a visit visa. Abu Dhabi government guidance for the skilled employee category requires a valid UAE employment contract and work permit, a MoHRE skill level of 1–3, a bachelor’s degree and a monthly salary of at least AED 15,000. In other words, you get a Green visa after you have the job. The job seeker visa helps you find that job.
Before you apply: a quick checklist
- Confirm you meet the skill-level or top-500 graduate condition, and get the supporting certificate.
- Attest your degree.
- Check your passport has at least six months’ validity left.
- Buy health insurance that is valid in the UAE.
- Budget for the visa fees, the AED 1,000 guarantee, flights, accommodation, transport and food for your whole stay.
- Update your CV to the UAE CV format and make it easy for applicant tracking systems to read.
- Start applying and booking interviews before you fly.
How to use your 60, 90 or 120 days well
The clock starts when you land, so plan the stay like a project.
Before you arrive
Spend two to four weeks applying from home. Shortlist 30 to 50 genuine openings that match your skill level, tailor your CV to each one, and tell recruiters your arrival date. Many first-round interviews happen online, so read our online interview tips and aim to land with some interviews already booked.
The first weeks in the UAE
Use this time for in-person meetings, recruitment agency registrations and walk-in interviews. Bring printed CVs and copies of your certificates. Our walk-in interview guide explains what to bring and how the day usually runs. Keep a simple tracker of each application, contact and follow-up date.
The middle stretch
Follow up about a week after each interview and keep applying while you wait. Check your budget too: if money runs low, go home and keep applying online rather than overstay.
The final weeks
If you are in final-stage talks, ask the employer about timelines for the offer and work permit. If you need more time, apply for an extension before your visa expires. Do not wait until the last day.
What happens when you get a job offer
First, verify the job offer and the employer. After that, the employer takes over: it applies to MoHRE for your work permit and then sponsors your employment visa. ICP and GDRFA Dubai both offer a status change (status adjustment) service, so your visa can often be switched to the employment track without you leaving the country.
We explain each step, from the offer letter to medicals and the Emirates ID, in our UAE work visa process guide.
Under Article 6 of the Labour Law, employers cannot charge workers the fees and costs of recruitment and employment, whether directly or indirectly. A genuine employer pays for your work visa. Never pay an “agent” who promises a job or a visa in return for money. Our guide to UAE job scams lists the warning signs.
Extensions, expiry and overstay fines
ICP’s visa extension rules allow a job exploration permit to be extended once or several times, as long as the total does not go beyond 180 days. ICP lists an AED 100 application fee and an AED 500 extension fee. Check the current amount when you apply.
If your visa expires and you have no job, leave the UAE before the end of any grace period that applies. ICP charges an AED 50 fine for each day of overstay, counted from the day after the applicable grace period ends. Overstaying can also cost you your AED 1,000 guarantee. ICP’s job seeker visa page does not give the exact grace period for this visa type, so confirm your own date through ICP or GDRFA before you rely on it.
If you later join an employer and then leave that job, different rules apply. Our guide to employment visa cancellation explains those.
Make the trip count
The UAE job seeker visa suits skilled professionals and recent top-university graduates who want to search on the ground without a sponsor. It does not let you work, so treat it as a fixed window: prepare documents early, book interviews before you fly, and let a genuine employer handle your work permit.
Start now: browse the latest UAE jobs or submit your CV so employers can find you before you land.
UAE job seeker visa: frequently asked questions
Do I need a sponsor for the UAE job seeker visa?
No. u.ae, ICP and GDRFA Dubai all say this visa does not require a host or sponsor in the UAE. You apply for yourself and pay the financial guarantee.
Can I work on a job seeker visa?
No. You can look for work only. Before you start any job, your employer must get a MoHRE work permit and change your visa status.
Can fresh graduates apply?
Yes, if they graduated in the last two years from one of the world’s top 500 universities under the Ministry of Education’s classification and hold a bachelor’s degree. Other fresh graduates need to qualify through the MoHRE skill-level route.
Is the job seeker visa single or multiple entry?
u.ae and ICP list it as single entry. If you leave the UAE, you will generally need a new visa to come back.
Can I extend my job seeker visa?
Yes. ICP allows one or more extensions, up to a total of 180 days. Apply before your current visa expires.
What is the fine if I overstay?
ICP charges AED 50 for each day you stay after your visa and any applicable grace period end. Overstaying can also affect the refund of your guarantee.
This guide is general information based on u.ae, ICP and GDRFA Dubai service pages and Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 as checked in October 2026. It is not legal or immigration advice. Rules and fees change, so confirm the current requirements with ICP or GDRFA Dubai before you apply.
